Test Microphone on Windows – Free, No Install
voicetest.app
Free online mic test for Windows 10/11 — no download, no signup. Check your mic in your browser with instant audio feedback.
Windows loves to quietly switch your default input device after an update, a driver reinstall, or a new USB dock. Before a call or a recording session, it pays to confirm the right microphone is actually selected and picking up sound. This free browser test needs no install and no signup — just click record and watch the levels move in real time.
- 1
Open Sound settings
Go to Settings > System > Sound > Input and confirm the correct microphone is chosen as the default input device, not a phantom or disconnected one.
- 2
Check input volume and boost
Click your microphone under Input, then Device properties, and raise the volume slider. Enable 'Boost' if your voice sounds too quiet during the test.
- 3
Verify app permissions
Open Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone and make sure 'Microphone access' and 'Let apps access your microphone' are both turned on for your browser.
- 4
Update or roll back drivers
In Device Manager, expand Audio inputs and outputs, right-click your microphone, and choose Update driver. If problems started after an update, try Roll Back Driver instead.
- 5
Run the Windows audio troubleshooter
Go to Settings > System > Sound > Troubleshoot common sound problems and let Windows automatically detect and fix input device issues.
