Zoom Microphone Test
voicetest.app
Check your microphone before Zoom meetings with an online audio test and live monitoring.
Joining a Zoom meeting with a dead microphone is an awkward way to start, especially in a client call or interview. Zoom has its own audio settings that can override your system defaults, so it's worth a quick pre-meeting check outside the app. This free browser-based test shows your live input levels instantly, no Zoom install or account required.
- 1
Test speaker and microphone before joining
In the Zoom join screen, click 'Test Speaker and Microphone' to run Zoom's own guided check, confirming both playback and input work before the meeting starts.
- 2
Check the Audio settings menu
Go to Settings (gear icon) > Audio and confirm the correct microphone is selected under 'Microphone', then watch the input level bar respond as you talk.
- 3
Disable 'Automatically adjust microphone volume'
Under Settings > Audio > Advanced, turn off automatic volume adjustment if your voice sounds inconsistent, then manually set a steady input level yourself.
- 4
Turn off Original Sound only when needed
Original Sound disables Zoom's noise suppression and echo cancellation, useful for music but often worse for regular speech. Keep it off unless you have a specific reason to enable it.
- 5
Verify OS-level microphone permission for Zoom
Check your operating system's privacy settings to confirm Zoom has been granted microphone access, since a blocked permission shows no error inside the app itself.
